Frequently Asked Questions

  • We'd like to have our invitations accepted or declined no later than Friday, April 11th. The sooner we have a good idea of the number of players and teams we will be able to put on the court, the sooner we will be able to make detailed plans around practice schedules and tournament dates and locations.

  • For those of you who are registered with Slam on PlayMetrics, you can find information about the tiers in the CLUB RESOURCES section. This includes season cost, length, practices, tournaments, etc.

This information can also be found on our website at https://www.slambc.com/club-levels

  • Most practices will be held at the KSU Rec. There is a 4-week period at the beginning of the Spring/Summer season where we will also hold practices at Anthony and Eisenhower Recs, as well as the Anthony and Eisenhower gyms.

  • Generally, teams will have one practice on Sunday afternoon (except after a tournament), and one practice during the week (M-Th), somewhere in the 6-9PM range. The duration of practice depends on the tier of basketball: PREMIER (2hrs), SELECT (1.5hrs), or PROSPECT (1hr).

  • For the PROSPECT tier there will be one tournament in Manhattan.

For the SELECT tier, we try for 4-5 tournaments that will be about half on the road and half in Manhattan. SELECT teams play regionally in places like Salina, KC, Wichita, and possibly Iowa. Most tournaments will be one day, but we might play in two-day tournaments if there is interest in doing so on a given team.

For the PREMIER tier, we try for 7-8 tournaments that will be mostly on the road. In order to find the appropriate level of competition, PREMIER teams will play in places like OKC/Tulsa, KC, Omaha, St. Loius and possibly Colorado. Most tournaments will be one day, but we might play in two-day tournaments if there is interest in doing so on a given team.

  • We shoot for ten (10) per team. Typically, seven (7) is the minimum and twelve (12) is the maximum. Special cases can apply, given the composition of any particular team.

  • There is flexibility to miss practices/tournaments. We try to be as flexible as possible during the Spring/Summer season because we know kids have other commitments (other sports, family vacations, etc.). But, we do expect some level of commitment to the team, especially at higher levels of competition.

  • There is an assigned, salaried coach for all teams. We do not rotate coaches from team to team or expect parents to coach.

  • Multiple ages might practice together in a limited capacity, especially at younger ages and at lower levels of competition, but that is not the norm. Practices are held for each distinct team so they they can build the chemistry required to play well together.

  • Our club fee covers court rentals, coach salaries, jerseys and other player kit, tournament entry fees and other operational costs.
